James,

I think I asked you if the reference book you received on Don Smith had
to do with magnetic flux or only the E field RF side, glad to hear it
does.  Rick is a good guy but his previous explanation was a bit
limited, perhaps it has changed with the book.  I have built a system I
was using for wireless charging of caps running at about 1mHz and loose
coupled on E side or top load side could produce a power gain but but
the time one looked at packing density and mutual coupling getting over
2:1 is a big hassle.  As Tesla pointed out with radio suppress the E
wave and use the magnetic side.  As Norm also mentioned when building
Tesla coils one has to use thick grounding wire.  So basically it's a
Tesla coil that does not waste time sparking and one pulls the energy
off the magnetic or ground side of the circuit.  By loading the top with
the right capacity the bottom part can pump, get it "top load".  Off the
bottom part can be multiple coils as magnetic flux will go through lead
without bother, it cannot be stopped but it can be guided around
things.  You will need a tunable spark gap to adjust for the highest
gain, then impedance match to the step down coil side, there is also a
multiplying effect when feeding negative biased spikes to ground so be
careful.  Observe all high voltage precautions, use electricians lineman
gloves, the long ones that go up the arm like dishwasher gloves.  Keep
one hand behind back while tuning or near the thing live.   The hertz
side is pretty safe due to skin effect, the magnetic side can kill you!
What people do not get at all is the power of the 1/4 wave magnetic when
highly DC biased can charge things nearby too and zap...

Good luck with your efforts, but when you get to the point of hooking to
your house be sure and decouple the DC with large caps as those spikes
will kill pretty much all appliances.  Check with smaller circuits with
functional GFI first!
