Yes. Been around for hundreds of years.

They are also known as Thromp Pumps or Klack Pumps from the sound they make...
I wrote about them at the link below. Took a Check-Vale apart and put
it together backwards as the compression valve.
Reset was a 4" drain pipe as feed and some 1.5" fittings with a 1...5"
output pipe.

I did learn a Health Respect for compressed water and air!
Almost lost the fingers of my right had,
and almost had my head caved in by a pump that broke look when tried
to bleed off some air in the pipe.
