You are overlooking one thing, according to Tesla a top load should not arc. So when we want to derive the capacitive reactance and very special phase modulation antenna all in one from the sphere it is super important to have a very polished surface for equal loading. I spoke to a retired air force electronics guru. He said they were making giant spheres and the rough machining was a surface with less than 10 thousandths variation. He said the finish polish work was classified above his level. He would not tell me what it was, if he knew and couldn't say I don't know. I have a good idea it was one of the field drive spheres from a saucer or similar electrogravitic device.

Hector has been preaching for years about the simplicity and joy to be found with big balls.....as capacitors.
One doesn't need those stainless steel versions, although they are pretty neat. Blow up vinyl balls covered with peel and stick tape, or even contact cement, and aluminum foil, work just as effectively. Set them on some inflated inner tubes to mount them away from conductors. This Bigelow guy is as long winded as Davison. Interesting I first found that book on some old book site but likely came from your expensive edition, thank you for making that public! That Davison book is so strange because whenever I read it I seem to derive some sort of insight that seems important at the time which I very quickly forget which is uncharacteristic. Most of what I read I securely store in long term memory.
So far my guess without re-reading the PSoM The sphere is a hybrid capacitor of sorts, based on the fact the inside is ceramic coated and perhaps filled with hydrogen , the outside is the ferrous metal being saturated/pumped via some energy sourced by a secret electret concoction that may or may not be beezwax and carnuba. Via the electret charge (could be with static electricity as you said we are dealing with so called soft particles or a better name for the phenology may be slow electrons) he may have created a reconnect phenomenon between the shell and the gas center similar when I pumped my plasma tube and it spun the compass wildly and cooked my protected timer circuits as if the crowbar protection was non existent.
