MickRussel is a lovely, extremely modest guy. He was a student of Richard Feynman, and introduced Feynman's work to me via giving me his Feynman's three volumes of Caltech lectures.
This was at our little corner diner, where nothing on the menu was $5 and the coffee was endless. Our booth was in the corner, lit with a single 60 watt bulb with a pull chain.We had lunch here every day.The menu was painted on the wall by Eddi's dad, back in the early sixties, there was one amendment of the prices bringing a hot chicken sandwich with fries up to $2.25.We called the booth "my office"Artists, actors, film makers, directors, producers, along with cab drivers, construction workers, stevedores, welfare moms... and of course my friend Russell, the nuclear scientist.It was here at this booth I chatted with my friend, Paul Mitchell, CEO of Dominion Bridge, who built the steel work of one of the fallen New York towers, and was the guy in the sky, tightening the bolts of the top of the CN tower dangling from the Sirkorsky helicopter when building that.I am out in the country now, waxing nostalgic about my lunch place, on the corner from my studio, it must be lunch timeCheers Warren

I remember having lunch with my friend Russel, a PHD physicist, who worked for Ontario Hydro in their nuclear program. One of his studies he told me about involved impingement corrosion inside of the cooling pipes, a worrisome part of running a nuclear plant. Elbows, he said, were the worst. He set up experimental examination apparatus for this study out of transparent glass, in place of the usual stainless metal pipe fittings, so he could examine the fluid flow at various velocities. Much to his surprise, it lit up like a neon tube with arcs and sparks inside the liquid, normally unseen inside the metal pipes. These tests were back in the early 60's in Ontario.
This story all came about as we were chatting about marine heat exchanger design considerations, across the booth over hot chicken sandwiches, and the talk was evolving into energy, as it so often does. Cheers Warren
