Hi NormanI remember having lunch with my friend Russel, a PHD physicist, who worked for Ontario Hydro in their nuclear program.One of his studies he told me about involved impingement corrosion inside of the cooling pipes, a worrisome part of running a nuclear plant.Elbows, he said, were the worst.He set up experimental examination apparatus for this study out of transparent glass, in place of the usual stainless metal pipe fittings, so he could examine the fluid flow at various velocities.Much to his surprise, it lit up like a neon tube with arcs and sparks inside the liquid, normally unseen inside the metal pipes. These tests were back in the early 60's in Ontario.
This story all came about as we were chatting about marine heat exchanger design considerations, across the booth over hot chicken sandwiches, and the talk was evolving into energy, as it so often does.Cheers Warren
