Warren I understand titanium will do the same thing we had a factory across the street that milled titanium and fire trucks were coming in all the time I asked a fireman about it ,in that conversation he told me about Volkswagon transmissions in Jetta's having titanium and they were trained to not use water.This is copied from the net.Unusual Fire and Explosion Hazards: Flammable when exposed to heat or flame. SteveIt is the magnesium of the engine block, that can't be extinguished, when fully burning. I don't know of titanium in VW.'sI used to turn down, on the lathe, VW timing gears, for the magnesium, to make pyrotechnics powder, for my motion picture special effects explosions, for the battles in outer space, in Starship Invasions.There was the Volkswagon of Canada's scrap yard, across the street from my studio, where I could buy the warranty returned parts by the pound, for my weird purposes.Cheers Warren

If the fires heated some metal to liquid state and the metal started flowing to hit some water or just some water flowed to hit some liquid metal this would cause a big explosion. Some of the videos shows something liquid pouring down on the outside of the buildings..It is also said that the fire workers heard explosions.
