If the fires heated some metal to liquid state and the metal started flowing to hit some water or just some water flowed to hit some liquid metal this would cause a big explosion. Some of the videos shows something liquid pouring down on the outside of the buildings..It is also said that the fire workers heard explosions.

The water is instantly separated into hydrogen and oxygen which releases even more energy when recombining. That energy has to go somewhere. Only way out is an explosion.
