Hi Ron,

If setting the video speed at slowest level it looks like a gradual speed down to a halt and then speeding up again in the opposite direction. It doesn't look like hard bouncing off a wall without a pause. Of course there is still a lot of mass to decelerate. The motor may just be shorted to dissipate the energy before making the reversal. This equals the back EMF (i.e. the generating voltage) which is the supply voltage minus the small motoring part of the voltage. A full reversal is huge compared to that.
