MickThank you for you in depth answer. It gives a useful handle on the "trembler" coil. I never heard that term before.Giving it a try using pancake coils sounds like an easy experimentI think I have some microwave diodes.A problem here in Eastern Ontario, is the separation from my cheap and cheery electronics component places, by 4 hours travel.I have to think way ahead, not my strongest forte, to get supplies I didn't bring from Toronto, that we just naturally use all the time, in our experiments, that qualify as basic bench tools. As it is just coming up to Christmasand our loved ones are always asking what to get the old bugger for Christmas, maybe it would be helpful to make out a list of perennial needed stuff in an energy workshop bench, that well, are useful, and not too expensive.People do love us, even as eccentric, and odd, our hobbies may be.Cheers Warren

Hi Warren,

Those trembler coils put out a bunch of noise all over the spectrum.  One can always test from a few feet away with the probe set on x10 and not damage the scope but a spectrum analyzer would show the different frequencies harmonics and any modulation type waveforms.  With a scope you might be looking at only one of the many frequencies it is spewing.

Yes there is a condenser in those things.  I know from back in the old days when we had chrome bumpers could use a T coil to electrify the body of our car in a parking lot park close enough the bumper would touch another persons metal bumper wait until the poor unsuspecting person came back from shopping and put the key in their door and then have fun.  Teenagers can be so freekin evil.

I think there are several ways a Don Smith device can function from the return stroke like lightening or using a magnet that has been conditioned similar to Sparky Sweet as core material (that is how the Russian device I showed you in the video running the drill worked)which is just another type of varying the reluctance of a core material to gate flux. Or one can just use the Larmour frequency of a core allowing it to shift between elemental states.  Varying the reluctance of cores has some powerful effects and can be accomplished with a conditioned magnet that is self excited at it's conditioning frequency so acts like it's own oscillatory variable reluctance device or by the use of gating to vary the reluctance in a device in such a way as to switch the flux from one side to another.   Allegedly there is a Toshiba washing machine that uses a variable flux switch motor.  Toshiba has the patent I posted a few days back.  I would love to get my hands on one of those!

I think the trembler coil would be a great device to use for crashing a big coil with flyback pulses or other modalities.  Since the unit is run as you say like a buzzer relay the longitudinal waveform is developed just like a spark gap so should be a really good "battery" for the rest of the device you want to build.

Buy a few diff HV diodes(microwave-30kv etc) and see which ones work without OD-ing.  Connect through the diode to one of your pancake coils and see if you can get a cheap plastic compass to snap about to prove it works.  The microwave oven diodes seem the most robust so far for me and can be added in series for more higher voltage capacity.

Sadly I must have missed Ole's new inverter scheme posts.

I hope I may have answered you questions, not sure if those were questions or just thinking out loud.

Mick What do we get from the old Ford Model T coil? It is 6 volts into, like a door bell buzzer switch, then primary, and secondary, producing a very hot spark, which I have never been able to see the nature of on a scope that I value. It is about 10,000 volts, judging by the length, and hot enough to ignite a sheet of paper put between the gap. Although I haven't performed surgery on one yet, I believe there may be an oil paper wrapped capacitor in there too. Now, in the vein of keeping the device simple, what happens when we rectify this high voltage "unknown" spark source?  This reliable high voltage DC source of pulses should be able to be applied to an inductor which in turn, should certainly disturb the local magnetic field, one might imagine.
We then get dangerously close to the Don Smith rabbit hole, where none of us has gone down yet. Ole might be peeking in the back door of that realm, with his new inverter? It seems that the rythmatic tapping on the magnetic field can resonate with a coil of wire of a certain length, in an amplified manner, again rectified, to produce usable electricity. All of this must be put inside a Faraday cage, lest we bring down the demons, sent out to find why cell phone coverage is suddenly not happening in an area. The T coil can be adjusted mechanically with adjusting the buzzer point gap, changing the frequency slightly. Cheers Warren

Kone,

It's much easier that way you are correct just investigating both concepts of AC and DC circuit harvesting.  When harvesting RF if one desires to pull DC the old fashioned way Tesla did it the timing is important as one goes up a even harmonic or two to pull of the compression or refraction only.

AC version and  the more difficult system I think has it's uses in the more esoteric weird shit Hector talks about because if one stays in the AC realm one can induce feedback to dance with the devil and friends.

Hi Ole and Mick
Just my measly two cent opinion but the capcitor "could" hold a charge rather than dancing back and forth with inductor if the capacitor has its charge rectified first which I believe is whole idea of diode plug and cap is timed to discharge into load too so there is power being created not just observation of resonance...
