Norm,

I am investigating the return strike from lightening in relation to the
neutral spike.  The two experiments you just mention are earthed however
you mention the neutral spike from a door buzzer also and Hector
mentions it in relation to the rotoverter creating an emp neutral spike
event.  I don't recall that either the buzzer or the rotoverter require
the bonded ground or a grounded neutral.   I had a buzzer when I was a
kid that would do something similar if one touched the switching relay
but found one a few months back looked the same but does nothing.  I
remember that buzzer being fearsome with only a little battery as it
felt like a 220 shock with current.

SO this distinction I ask to be clarified as the term neutral spike
would denote a connection to ground but some of these devices seem to
have a similar effect when decoupled from ground.
