Norm,
Here in Australia when we say it is single phase, we mean it is one phase of the three phase 415 volt supply and the neutral and this gives us 240 volts.

How do you get a single phase supply without a neutral over there?

Mick!  I really do not understand what it is that you do not understand!   There have been two different scenarios with my bench top simulation of the Neutral Spike experiment where the effect was successfully created.  The last one was with a 5HP A/C compressor that uses both start and run capacitors needed to create the effect. Go back and review the whole setup that I have posted to the group several times.  The iron motor frame was bonded to a 10 ft. ground stake (EARTH BOND).  The 230VAC supply to the motor was 2 ea. 8ga. conductors (L-1& L-2) with no neutral (single phase hook up). When an adjustable (locked rotor current detector)  over current relay would drop out L-1 & L-2 supply to motor leaving it in an isolated condition since there was no neutral in schematic. You have a magnetically saturated motor and charged capacitors that are separated from the earth bonded metal frame via the dielectric in the insulation involved. In both cases, I found that the isolation of charge (both magnetic  flux and electric via capacitors (45mfd) created the EMP (Neutral Spike when the stored energy was cancelled.   The very first encounter was with the little 1/6 HP fan motor that created the same effect as the big experiment. That case there was a zip cord (3 ea. 18 ga. conductors)  L-1 ,a neutral and an earth green bonding wire involved.  Due to a Chinese worker miss wiring a double pole reversing switch which caused the isolation of the run capacitor when the switch was in transition from forward run to reverse, the EMP shot was created.  The whole thing is summed up with isolation of charge, both magnetic and electric charge!

Doug & Warren, I love your thinking process for designing a circuit (Ardino ?)  that rapidly tracks the capacitance values needed to zero in on the targeted frequency for hard ferroresonance.  Since solid state will not survive the environment, just use the circuits to control hard tubes like the thyratron do do the heavy lifting.  Auto tracking circuits can be made to mitigate (avoid) the ferroresonance phenomenon, therefore the same circuit can auto target  the values needed to capture the circuit parameters needed.  Just my two cents thrown in, soon we will have a whole $dollar!  Lol   PS: Doug, I like the Fuck it, just Short Circuit!   On my 5 HP compressor locked rotor experiment, I used a simple overload relay which was set for drop out at locked rotor amps (82 amps)  which gave me the super saturation of the motor iron when the 2 pole single phase contactor (230 VAC) opened thus leaving the whole shebang in an isolated condition (no ground reference). When the isolated energy (magnetic saturated iron and 45mfd caps) cancelled, I got the EMP shot in the earth ground, Neutral Spike.   Your thinking is right on!   Norm

 Also as caps fill over time, and when they discharge and refill they again change the ferroresonance or resonance "parameters" of primary system that fills caps.
 My sick plan is to fuck it all, instead SHORT CICUIT inductorsvery briefly with switch at peak periods, this cause hypernringing within coil and gives you  simulation of resonant condition since you have same effects you want in extraction and that is voltage increase into capacitors X 20 or X 50 in magnitude.
 Also short can be applied to AC or DC impulse take your pick...with DC it is done just before saturation, with AC, at.voltage peak periods.
