A simple diode as used in the flyback converter (or inverter) is enough.

The circuit above is also galvanic isolated by using a transformer between the input and output sides.

The buck converter lets power through to the output during part of the cycle. The flyback pulse is decoupled from the input though.

 Something the opposite of a freewheeling diode that would not short out the supply pulse.
