Body

GeorgeI made a full sized replica of the first and second stages of the lunar lander module. I tried to be as accurate to the original, as possible, working from drawings and, of all things, a plastic model.
It was not missile science to build, nust damn good aircraft engineering, with a little formula 1 racing car, thrown in for good measure. The space frame legs and mounts, very well engineered for the landing gear stage, with hydraulic fancy shock absorbers, not that unlike helicopters or aircraft, or as I mentioned racing car space frame construction, which I am more familiar with. How would you design, and build such a device? Not really that much different, I am sure, even if it had to land on the moon, given the technology available in the day, and the skills and abilities of a workshop crew, skilled in the art, to build it.The crew module mounted on top, that jetisoned the legs module, to save weight/ fuel, left it on the moon after using it as a launch pad for takeoff, was of monocoque construction sheet metal titanium/ aluminium skinned affair, that unibodied car design picked up on, some years later. When they were saying that the research and development that went into the space program helped industry on the ground, that proved to be no lie, as anybody into home built aircraft, or racing cars, can testify to. Even achitects and designers adopted much of the engineering used in the space program, for more mundane projects on the ground.Bear in mind, the people who worked on the space programs didn't all end their careers when the gig was over, to simply get work watering a golf course.( not to diminish those who do that) but they went on to work in other projects, bringing with them, what they learned in their last job, as we all do, no matter what it is.My lunar lander all came apart and was built pretty much as the original, as that was also the most ecconomical and easy way to build it.I didn't use titanium, but did use steel and aluminium. The base leg section was light weight thin walled steel tubing, welded in exactly the same places and manner as the original, even to the flexing of the suspension legs.Doing something like that gives a guy a trip through the design engineers heads who originally though this sucker up.They too were given a job to do, and went about it in a decent workman manner.I didn't use gold foil. I managed to get gold annodized vacuum deposited mylar to fake the gold foil. I cheated on thruster motors using Javex bottles cut and painted, and stubby dry wall screws as shadow catching rivets. It was used in a feature film about an artist who trained a flock of Canadian geese to fly South, called "Father Goose"And had powered hang gliders etcA family film, I was proud to be part of.Cheers Warren

 Warren,
Speaking about fantasy-land, well, most of the people of the world have been in fantasy-land about the moon landing since 1969, but I'm not one of them.

The people trying to clean up radioactive material at Chernobyl asked NASA to provide them with protective clothing to protect the workers from radiation.  They wanted clothing such as that worn by those who went to the moon.  They were told no such protective clothing existed.
Have you examined what the co-called moon lander was made of?  Some curtain rods, duck tape and aluminium foil etc., all to withstand temperatures up to 2000C.

NASA has admitted that we never went to the moon and a lot of the film footage of the moon landing was shot in a studio in England.
Research the fake moon landings.
George

George shame on you for going off into fantasy land.
Where were you when the Appolo astranauts walked on the moon. What were you doing?I was standing with fifty or hundred people who had walked across mountains for three days to watch this event on a flickering black, and white, TV, in the market, in Oaxaca, Mexico. As the boys walked on the surface of the Moon, people were  standing there, weeping. Weeping, not for Nasa, not for the USA , but for the entire planet Earth, and these naked monkeys, have just touched another orbiting body, and we all celebrate the acheivement.Later, a few nights later, in Monte Alban, I lay on my back in the most clear atmosphere on this planet, and watched as the space craft, carrying the astronauts, re-entered, in a spectacle so stunning , that it could be seen with the naked eye.I have had friends who worked on getting the folks out of the world, and on to the moon. The Avro Arrow team were scooped up, and taken to work in United States, on the lunar mission.Who wouldn't?Check the people. All most half were Canadians from the Arrow team.Somebody is just making shit up, reallyCheers Warren
