My wife put in a help wanted request at the local civic message board about general labour for the summer, to give me a hand.
There was only one respondant, a young person with lots of tatoos, who doesn't drive, (although, it is at least a ten minute drive into town). He is always on time, has a pleasant personality, and works really hard.That little oblong object holding up the weight of the post is a twenty ton hydraulic jack. All that tackle is to force the post straight as the wall had splayed out, and twisted because the roof was hogged. Some past owner had cut out the hand hewn cross ties up in the heavens. I bought a load of 20' long 6"x6"x20' long lodge pole pine pressure treated beams, and 8"x8"x20' posts, available at a good price, even though it is hard to find good logs that length around here, at local saw mills.( the best stuff was always exported to the States, before the Trump soft wood trade chaos)I am using the Caterpillar excavator as an anchor point in my rigging efforts, so it was not available for hoisting around rocks to put under the post.It puts the pulley haully sailor skills to work. If you have enough pulleys and line, you can lift anything by hand.I managed to put several beams up to the loft myself, safely, even being a bag of broken bones after that horse accident a few years ago.My wife insisted that I get an extra hand.An extra person gets things done quicker.It really gives you a down to earth sense of the meaning of horse power, and the power speed relationship.To get the sky hooks way up to the peak of the roof three and a half stories up, well beyond the length of my new Canadian tire extension ladder, that poops out at 28 feet, I used my special effects air cannon to fire a plastic pipe cap with a fish line over a old hay rail up there, bringing up a proper braided polyester line.It is good to have a young person around to show the ropes to.He had never seen a signal cannon before( even though it was home made)Anyway, I need to get all these barns shaped up, with good roofs, able to hold solar collectors, and have heated floors, without burning petro chemicals, and fossil fuels.It is such a luxury to have space to work after all those years in the city. Every little job had have city inspection, delays, plans submitted, work permits, variances signed off by neighbours, engineers, and so on.Give me Earth, rocks, timber and string, any old day.Cheers Warren

Your a maniac for sure. I like how that beam is balanced on what appears to be a semi oblong small rock.
I hope you are still fast with reflexes in case something decides not to stay where you put it, though unlikely with the bowline knots. I tried to jump backwards once out of the way of a falling motorcycle, found out I had stupidly crowded myself against the garage door with no place to move.
Where do you find people to help you there in that new neighborhood?
