SvenI have been thinking about just what I did different regarding the big motor test and the little motor test.Unlike you, I am not a naturally careful experimenter, keeping good notes. With the small motor experiment( the failure), I made up very nice organized banks of bridge rectifiers. With the big motors, it was a haphazzard, spontaneous event where I might be soldering the diode bridges to the brush wire connections ac legs down, but now, years later, as I analyze the method, a thought occurs. If you take a bridge rectifier, and place the ac leads on a dc source, that also has bursts of ac, what happens if you should reverse the two ac leads?
Now this introduces a puzzle.I am trying to determine why, if the big motor experiment worked so well, why I was unable to replicate it with the chain of toy dc motors?Other than size, the motors are not so much different.Hector has outlined, quite well the operation of the diode plug, though a link to the circuit diagram might be useful. That energy, ferro resonance, back emf, terms, I hesitate to use, because it assumes one knows what it is.I don't know exactly what causes those arcs and sparks at the commutator, but there appears to be more energy kicking out of there than one is consuming.Normally, in industry, trouble is taken to dissipate that energy, as it causes spikes, burns switches, and relays, destroys commutators, heats up motors until the plastic parts melt.Capacitors dampen that energyCorrectly placed bridge rectifiers can pass it on, because with them, you have no heat or sparks. But "pass it on" is not something done when you must get a product out past cost accountants, meet shipping deadlines, and otherwise stop fiddling around, rather than working to meet a customer order.Powering a whole chain of dc motors that do nothing, is just silly....., or is it?Cheers Warren

Hello Warren, if I had the big engines I would do it especially if it worked out. do it if you are convinced, the other I explain later, sorry little time. Greetings Sven

Susequent to the big motor experiment, I tried to duplicate it with little dc toy motors. It was a failure. I did not get the same effect.I then got very busy with work, and had to put everything in storage, never getting back to it, with new distractions, and all. It might be good to give it another try now that I have instruments.Cheers Warren

What are you doing different with a "diode plug" and a bridge rectifier circuit.I think I understand the bridge rectifier, but am not certain what makes up a diode plug to improve on a normal rectifier.I want to redo an interesting experiment that I did some years ago, involving ten large permanent magnet motors. The idea was to capture the arcs and sparks of the armature, and channel that energy to power yet another motor. This resulted in two benefits. Yes, the energy could be harvested, and secondly, the motor would run cool without the brushes arcing.I found that there was a voltage increase from motor, to motor, along the chain of motors linked together in this " daisey chain" circuit
I used bridge rectifiers ac legs to the brushes, to then supply power to the next motor with the dc legs, and so on.After ten motors, there was a rise in voltage from 35 to 90 volts with very strong amperage, yet no increase from the very small 5 amp battery and 125 watt inverter, Variac and rectifier running the motors ranging from 1/3 hp to 1 1/2 hp.Cheers Warren

Hello Warren, Mick, in German does not make much sense, here is only spoken by pulsed DC voltage but maybe the secret is elsewhere in the batteries. Since I can do better with the diode plug, have now connected for the impedance adjustment a heavy Variac. About him I can regulate the voltage for the battery. I noticed something strange in the first attempts that with increasing voltage, only the current increases and then drops sharply as if the analog display wanted to show negative values. The voltage in the battery rises sharply. Had to cancel due to time reasons. Greetings Sven

Warren,

We need Sven to translate this for us, as I can't make much sense of it even after reading the translation you were kind enough to provide.

The only thing I got out of it was some kind of decoupled amplifier by using optocouplers to decouple the bias voltage from the gain voltage input on an amplifier.   After decoupling the control voltage an amplifier still requires the power input for gain so I am at a loss of what these guys are explaining.  Also 30kW out of something the size of a USB dongle does not make any sense.

It sure doesn't sound bad, at all. Where can one get samples to experiment with?
In my imagination, there could be a large board, populated with such modules, defying logic, yet supplying power. One must attempt these things before crushing an idea in its infancy. Cheers Warren
