Warren!  I believe that Hector would agree with my caution to you regarding a "gunning event" where you attempt to create a rapid "Avalanche" of "EMP" pulses. we have not learned how to capture and use the results of a "single shot event"!  I was extremely afraid to set up a "rapid fire" recharge of flux saturation and cap charge. Unless you actually do the experiment and see for yourself the "EMP" event, only then will you realize the "folly" of your idea of "Gunning" the device.  Yes! you could go way up in size of device and posssibly go to three phase but three phase motors don't use starting and run capacitors.  The biggest single phase motors I have seen that use start/run capacitors is the 7 1/2 HP well pump motor sold by WW Grainger.   Air Conditioner 5  or 6 HP compressors are too easy to find at your salvage yards for about 10 cents a pound!  EBay sell them all day!  What ever you do, be careful cause  there is more energy here than you can handle!  "safely" that is!

That is extremely intetesting How far do you think you can take this idea? How about a rotary motored switch where you set up the event in an effort to harvest this windfall energy? Cheers Warren

(H), From my very first encounter with EMP back in 1981 while working as Director of Research & Development for a ceiling fan manufacturer, was doing final acceptance, destructive testing of new production samples from China.  The motor samples were a tall stack Emerson copy that had a reverse feature. (1/6th HP).  The reverse feature was accomplished by moving the run capacitor from one end of the shading windings to the other end via a double pole , double throw Carling toggle switch.   Hookup wire was 18 ga. zip cord 2 conductor.  Motor drew 1.75A @120VAC = 210 watts. Testing included severe loading by running motor full speed forward, then reversing (toggle switch) which caused motor to grind to a stop , then spool back up to speed in reverse rotation. After several reversal operations, the toggle switch exploded with a bright green flash and the bang of a big fire cracker. Tear down of motor and inspection found no damage to the 22 ga. motor windings nor to the 18 ga. internal switch circuit wiring. ????  The Carling 30 amp rated double pole, double throw switch was totally destroyed with contacts vaporized.  After vaporizing several switches in subsequent test, I called in an Electrical Engineer Professor from University of Texas to observe the abnormal operation. We destroyed another switch then changed the reverse switching to a large double throw motor reversing contactor rated at 60 A.    The contactor exploded with total destruction of contacts with bang of huge firecracker and bright green flash.  The Professor could not explain the destructive force created from such small wiring and only a 210 watt line draw from motor. The 20 amp panel breaker did not trip in any of these episodes.   Here is the explanation as to what caused this whole scenario.    After studying the schematic of the motor wiring plans and comparing with the (as assembled) by little ladies in tennis shoes (China), it was found that reversing switch was wired on neutral side of line input instead of the hot side.  All generation of the EMP shot requires that you isolate a charged capacitor and saturated motor windings to create the effect you are looking for.  The little Chinese Ladies created the isolation effect by incorrect switch placement.  by complying to motor specifications, the problem was corrected, but I learned how to create the EMP easily.   Years later I did the exact same transit switching isolation of charge in the 5 ton A/C compressor which was a magnum version of the little ceiling fan shaded pole motor event.   The single phase 230VAC, 5HP motor uses L1 & L2 line with no neutral in the schematic.  Motor frame and chassis is bonded to earth ground.   The start capacitor is 45mfd and run is 5mfd. See schematic:

By using an overcurrent relay in the contactor control circuit you can adjust the contactor trip current at peak locked rotor saturation current which is 82mamps for this type of motor. when contactor drops open the entire motor/capacitor wiring is isolated from a neutral return, with only the motor iron and frame bonded to earth ground.  the cancellation of magnetic flux and capacitor charge developes a Neutral spike out of the earth bonded side of the circuit. You did not destroy the energy, you just changed its form into a Aetheric event.  Yes, Hector it is quite a sight to see this event. Have fun.  Norm
