On the experiment with the party strobe I was slowly tuning it to get a
couple flashes when unplugged and there seemed to be a place where one
can get two flashes per cap firing then an interesting very slight
synchopated sound where it sounds like galloping rather than straight time.
I was unwinding a coil one half turn at a time until suddenly it became
louder and sparks appeared where the coil was wrapped and then the
strobe went off and would no longer work except a flash or two when I
plugged it in and out. I thought maybe I had burned the 1n7001 but
changing it made no difference. After awhile the strobe worked again
but the magic spot seemed to have disappeared with the snapping coil.
There is a large rectangular part on the PCB I don't recognize which has
three terminals two on one side one being a much smaller gauge wire it's
in a case that looks to be metal. Maybe this is some kind of thermal
switch, any guesses?
