WernerI have one, someplace, at least I did before the move. The movers knew nothing about machinery, but packed it like it was all fancy furniture, or something. There in a box absolutely packed in news print might be a 100 lb generator, or it can be full off metal scrap from the shop. They packed everything. Most of the boxes are too heavy for me to lift, so I cut the cardboard sides out of the box only to discover thousands of small fasteners pouring on to the floor. What a pleasure to have it warm enough not to freeze ones hands dealing with such a mess.So far, I am doing the 3600 rpm unit firstIt is all ACI have the DC standing by, both motor and generator.Things are working, but as of yet, that is just mechanically, and no generator put to the test yet.Cheers Warren

Frankly I can't remember exactly were I read or saw that I think it was YouTube .but it was real ..he was talking power verses pulley ratios . it's wouldn't take much to track it down . spring maple syrup pancakes and sausages .man oh man .On Mar 28, 2018 1:20 PM, "Warren Keillor [email protected] [EVGRAY]" <[email protected]> wrote:
JamesI think I must have missed that oneI have been having a hard time just to get the wheel spinning up until today.Once spinning, much to my surprise, above certain speeds, it vibrated worse than my cell phone, ready to take down the building.I had to spend a hour or so adjusting the balance, using long studs and nuts out from the hub. It would be easier from the rim except attaching the weights.Anyhow this seemed to have worked as the shake has calmed down.I am building a board for the generator with all the terminals outside so I can attach wires easily, but not baby safe, as they are all brass knurled knob nuts, for eye terminal wires. It makes it easy to connect meters and check output etcI haven't found my Fairbanks -Morse 1800 rpm generator yet, as Believe it or not, I am still unpacking from the Move in late December, just before the snowstorm that never went away. The maple sap is running, the snow is only in patches in the shade behind the buildings, but I think spring might come after all.I haven't a clue as to the guy' s ratios except looking at various pulley sizes. Relative to each other.I am not sure how fussy it is.There seem to be quite a variety on youtube video. To my mind , at this point, turning is good. It takes over ten minutes to coast down to a stop.Cheers WarrenSent from Yahoo Mail on Android

Hi everyoneI have been shuffling belts and pulleys, gearing down the 3400 rpm 1 horsepower, single phase ,120 volt, 60 hz motor. It kept blowing breakers during that very grueling start up.I kept sizing up the pulleys on the flywheel shaf, requiring trips into town to change, and fortunately, exchange, vee belts at the Canadian Tire store, until I got this present one, which I fitted this morning.I put it on, then noticed the breaker was off, thanks to the neon light in the end of the extension cord being off.I had to go to another shed to flip the breaker.. By the time I got back to the stone barn, the wheel was up and running like a good thing, as I had left the switch on. The motor was up to full speed but the flywheel could get a few more revs, so I cranked the motor mount tighter, and that did the trick, using the Lovejoy sliding motor mount. The whole rig started to jump around on the floor, so I had to shut things down, take off the belts, and set the flywheel turning by hand, and coast to a stop..By noting where it stopped each time, I was able to see where it needed weight.I made the mounting bolts extra long, for mounting the hub to the flywheel so a threaded section stuck out beyond the wheel hub.I was able to put a 1/2" NC nut on the high stud and it seems to be very random where it stops now.Next after removing the c clamps and vice grips holding everything down, and fastening it all properly, the generator must be addressed. That means using a terminal board, and testing of all the wires, again, and figuring how to power the rotor core safely, to find out what this baby can do while spinning at speed.Cheers Warren
