Yep it neuralizes the brain MIB style, place a tin can to cover the strobe ,,, try placing an opposing polarity magnet (big speaker magnet) to coil at different distances , and see the bounceback flyback effect increase or decrease .... you may use a piezo in series to coil and there you got an MRA banger ! use lexan box shield for the piezo so if it blows up there is no collateral damage ,,,,
you will need to calculate the specific to your circuit
as a note for many basic testing i used a 100mF 370 VAC OIL capacitor
the difference with the diode in & out is quite notable ,,,

As for the experiment, tried with a 4007 then a fast HD diode and three different coils in series with the xenon. One pancake from a inductive cooker, one I wound on a small piece of mumetal from an audio transformer isolation shield and one a switching power supply transformer.
Did not notice a difference in or out except with one series coil connected there was a slight change in tone from the strobe at a certain speed with the diode connected vs not.
Got headache from strobe and stopped.
