From town i always liked a house in the mountain one day i used a telescope and left in pointed to it i took a nap and half awake i heard a voice telling me go and see why you need to construct in metal or concrete & stone ...as i woke up i heard some sirens went and took a look and the house was a ball of fire in the mountain face ....
from that day is think in stone , steel and 12K PSI structural concrete and on solid stone land .... there are inflatable concrete domes , i think i will get me those , add some minerals to the mix and it will be harder than carbide ,

Did you ever see Dome book II , the hippy dome building book from the early seventies? It is still the best hands on publication for all the math made simple.
It may be on line. I don't know, but I bet Darrell knows how to find these things.
I still have my old dog eared copy which I successfully used to actually get a building permit for one in the city of Toronto, way back then. The city of Toronto building engineers are very annal retentive, and I considered it the coup of my design career at the time to get a bucky fuller dome passed, using the math from my hippy Dome book.
The technique of 2X4s and plastic pipe hubs for the skeleton is not in the book, and was developed in Toronto by the architects I worked with. Although you can use aluminium tube, the plastic pipe works perfectly. Synergy! A word made up by Bucky Fuller. Fuller lectured at U of T, and I was a lucky design student to be in the audience.

I can sketch drawings of the details concerning exactly how to make the joints.By the way, these suckers should be safe in a huricane, if any shape can be. Synergy..read what Bucky says about it. It is very cool engineering.

Back in the early seventies, I worked for an architectural company designing geodesic domes.
For the time and money, and materials, you just can't beat them as a structure.
You need 2x4s (short cheapies)
A lift of plywood 1/2" or 5/8"
A couple 4" ABS sewage pipes
A compound mitre saw, a skilsaw
A screw gun and square socket Robinson deck screws
A 3/8" ratchet and 9/16" socket
3/8" NC studs one end and lag screw on the other.
You prefabricate all the struts. There are three different lengths. Each has a mitred end with a vee groove to fit the plastic pipe diameter radius.
You can build all of this in less than a week in a borrowed friend's garage.
The skins are made from 4x8 ply lap scarfed into endless lengths and cut into triangles. Laminate rubber roll roofing to each.
Set up on location can take less than two days, leaving you with a 32' diameter workshop costing around $1500.
I would use a gypcrete pad on styrene foam with heating tubes cast in for the heat pump heating system using Pex tubing.
My domes built in the early 1970's are still standing, being used every year as a children's summer camp.
It is just a thought, as I know you are a builder.
