 I have the same strobe units as you I think three of them, but ruined one playing around with it...
 It all depends on the coil you pulse, it if is OU in its "kickback" collapsing field or not....
 Pulse width of primary- pulse is going to be very important, also to not reach saturation or just at the peak of saturation of coil from the pulse not to mention the core;s reaction to everything if there is a core...
 Also think about not just one coil, but extend the core (if a core)  of the coil and wrap more winds back there....infact extend both ways at ends, wrap more winds ((pickup winds) around the front extended core and also the back....then wrap more pickup winds all the way around the whole mess too, now you have induced pickup winds in front of, in back of, and around the primary pulsed coil in the middle of it all....those induced winds also pickup the spike too!
 Then make a bifilar or trifilar primary, pull out induced power from the non-pulsed winds of the bifilar or trifilar....now you are making power behind, in front of, around it, and within it....put that induced power into caps first, then pulse caps by themselves to load and load could be that flashing light...
 Anyways good luck with the coil-banger I was not even close to being successful so don't feel bad I didn't try too hard though one attempt and gave up...
