SvenThe value that the component literature states is only a rough value. Consumer descrete components have a fair broad tolerance when you actually measure each one. When I had chips custom made to do the deadmaus video head, it was not unusual to find 15% of those components were not usable. That means they were junk. That is not bad by industry standards of manufacture.Of the balance of those chips, each, and every one, had to be tested. This involved quite a number of people working with broad field microscopes, on long tables, testing each leg of the integrated circuit both visually, and electronically. I hired young exceptionally bright kids graduating from high school. Although they had no previous experience, they were quick learning, and had good eyesight, and nimble fingers. So for safety sake in meeting your deadline completion date, it was wise to have at least three times the components that you nominally need, and that might be a minimum.Just because what you put together works perfectly, doesn't mean accidents can't happen hooking the circuits up, or something stupid. It is just normal that this will happen.Back to the components. All this checking is labour intensive even though the wages are not high when you must sell diodes for less than $1 each because that is all the market will pay.
We must check our own component values because brand new, they can be wildly off even from good manufacturers. We are not buying "military spec" components no matter what they choose to call them.Only freaks build things from components anymore, compared to the bulk of humanity. Measure.Cheers WarrenSent from Yahoo Mail on Android

Hello Warren, that can be. I'm trying to get exactly the same modules, at least the 4 diodes that make up the FWBR. not easy. Sometimes there are identical modules from the data sheet with different voltage strengths, how big the impact is unfortunately I do not know. Greetings Sven

You have done a most inspirational series of experiments. The diode plugs may have to be made from individual diodes, each of which you test to make sure it has the same characteristics as the others in a bridge arrangement, as oposed to using a ready made diode bridge.Cheers Warren

Hello Mick,

I bought a ferroresonant transformer myself at that time, but these devices are only with small benefits at least for us and then they are also very rare. I have examined the transformer and tried everything possible also the diode plug. Then I got myself a small 3 phase transformer for small money and it also operated as standing wave generator, it is only a little more difficult because the magnetic shunt is larger and less energy is transferred to the C phase, but also a little more economical what the active power for the operation is concerned.

My problem is to synchronize everything, so that both diode plugs are the same, I think the push-pull windings must be the same, I still have to work on that. The pure function of the circuit works flawlessly and in the right setting, the energy is not reflective to the source, I've already done that. The impedance of the load must be very low, you can hear it already switching the semiconductors it is getting harder, then even the input power is additionally consumed down.

But I consume additional active power when operating the diode plug, which I think still needs to be greatly minimized.

At the moment I have little time to experiment again.

I can only recommend to anyone who wants to build it to work with large semiconductors, everything else is destroyed or overheated after a short time. With 200 amp diodes and thyristors everything stays cool.
But I'm about to rebuild the diode plug platform and to structure everything better and to build everything short and symmetrical line technology.

It's an interesting experiment, with very destructive energies. But I think it is the simpler system, even if it at first glance most complicated reads.

regards

Sven
