SvenYyou are using a very interesting circuitThere are elements of it, such as the centre tapped transformer, that Zilano had so much good luck with.It seems that resonance is certainly important.I myself, doing Hector's RV, in such a primitive and crude way, as I did, managed to get resonance following instructions.I have not been able to aproach what you are doing, as yet, but give you full applause, and cheers, and hope I am smart enough to figure out how to replicate your work.
I see a connection between your work, Don Smith , and ZilanoCheers Warren.

Hi Guys,

Here is my latest configuration or future I'm still waiting for the 2 Variacs I've acquired.

It is definitely an interesting experiment which can be expanded and gives interesting results.

Sven,
What were the high voltage variable inductors formerly used for?It almost seems like they must have been radio frequency antenae tuners, or something.Do you have a picture of them?Is it possible to use a sliding ferrite core in a little one, for subtle changes in inductace? How else can small increments of inductance be made?We were taught that adjustments can be made with small capacitors, or variable air gap capacitors when I studied for Ham radio.Cheers Warren Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android

Hello Hector, do not we want to commit ourselves to the diode plug?

I have used MOTs as reactors and have to say that adjusting them is very hard as they have little room for extra turns and they will be warm. It is of course a cheap alternative if you have nothing else, I got one as a gift and the other from the junkyard.

I have here an old sst250 / 10e variable transformer for 2.5 kva which can be adjusted wonderfully. Instead of a transformer, I used the as adjustable reactor. You can clearly see the change on the scope when you stop the transformer I'm trying to get another 2 of them. These transformers are very heavy have a high inrush current, in my opinion, the optimal magnetic memory for the diode plug.

The efficiency has increased tremendously due to the large transformers but adjusting them precisely over the turns is very difficult.

Just calculate the capacitors via the reactance. The next day I had different values. Of course, the mains frequency may be lower or higher, which of course would falsify the measurement results.

I am very grateful for ideas and feedback.

Sven
