 This causes a delaying effect so that the transformer core doesn't become magnetised till a bit later in the input drive cycle.
 So the load winding doesn't 'feel' the input current's flux till a bit later on.
 By the time the back emf flux gets back to the steel shield .... if lucky we can cause the input current to increase (via back emf effect) whilst the input voltage is past 90 degrees.
 

 Giving a Cosine value which is negative. so E times I times Cos phi is negative answer, so effectively making a negative resistance, which can create power rather than consuming it. 
 

 Using the wire made this way also has some other interesting effects on it's own too.
