Hi Kone,
For me painted florist wire, which just has a thin paint coating works
better than plastic coated wire.
As when its tightly packed it has more metal per square inch & less 'air'
space between the flux conductors.

For a current experiment I am using "Blossoms by Vivaldi" brand florist
wire, it is only 130 gauge tho (in 113 gram packet) which is likely a bit
small diameter.
I'm down under in Australia here...you guys most likely have better range
to choose from up there in the real world.

What I do is wind the florist wire very tightly around the back end of a
small drill bit to make long lengths of hollow steel coils.
Then I feed a varnished copper wire up the centre of the coil.

See attached picture.

Then I use this copper with steel jacket wire as the primary or secondary
of a transformer.
When the copper wire develops it's magnetic field whilst carrying current.
The field can't get out out of the steel jacket until it saturates the
steel.

This causes a delaying effect so that the transformer core doesn't become
magnetised till a bit later in the input drive cycle.
So the load winding doesn't 'feel' the input current's flux till a bit
later on.
By the time the back emf flux gets back to the steel shield .... if lucky
we can cause the input current to increase (via back emf effect) whilst the
input voltage is past 90 degrees.

Giving a Cosine value which is negative. so E times I times Cos phi is
negative answer, so effectively making a negative resistance, which can
create power rather than consuming it.

Using the wire made this way also has some other interesting effects on
it's own too.

ps the paint gets hot & smells pretty bad at high power levels.
