Hi Warren, I have already set up the circuit separately and put on terminals. Cooling is a problem and weak semiconductors. laughing. Here are so many cheap semiconductors sold in the high-power area because they no longer wants to have. I think I get the temperatures under control. The tight tolerances of the components of 0.003 worries me more. If the system stable runs permanently I want to balance the tolerances. I would be interested in which components are particularly important. Greetings Sven

The idea of a universal stand alone diode plug is a good one.It would just need connectors to the outside, and have its own box(or liquid filled tub)Cheers Warren

Hi Ole,

So I already had the right nose. But I think that's what we want to reap, harness that energy. Since this energy is very destructive, I think that Hector has used 180 amp diodes because they temporarily hold enormous currents, sometimes several 1000 amperes for milliseconds.

I have a datasheet of my last achievement here.

I would like to make the diode plug Universal Testbar and above all overloadable.

In any case, the fact is that the large diodes or thyristors do not heat up as much as the small ones despite the same cooler.
Since the internal resistance is also very small, it is no longer possible to generate much power loss here..

Of course, connecting a diode to a spark gap is very destructive and not my intention.

I need someone who helps me who is excited about it.
I do not know how far others have gone now with the diode plug and what experiences they have made.
Through the coupling capacitors and reactors, the diode plug has reached a whole new dimension, I think. The components are now much more burdened than before.

For the reactors I wanted to test digit transformers as an adjustable impedance, unfortunately I only have one so that you can tune during operation.

regards

Hi Sven, Hector,

Fast discharge is avalanche discharge or a solid state spark through the semiconducting crystal. Even though this mode gives the lowest impedance it still dissipates a lot of heat. Avalanche discharge happens extremely fast and can be used to generate nanosecond or even picosecond pulses. This of course requires a low impedance transmission line (like 50 Ohm coaxial cable) to be able to carry such fast pulses away from the device. Else the energy is radiated (EMP).

The fusing energy may be given as i2t or avalanche current or avalanche energy in the datasheet. Stay below that value if not intending to use the device as an expensive fuse. If protection is wanted use a fuse having lower fusing energy than the device or make the device shut off before reaching that level. Remember a snubber to catch any inductive kickback energy (flyback voltage) from reaching the device after cutting off at high current. The snubber must be able to dissipate (or store) the stored magnetic inductive energy causing the flyback voltage.

Regards
Ole
