Does Mike have any added attractions to the 120 volt like an RV or an inverter or has he just found a heat pump that is that much of a fuel miser I have a good heat pump system in my house but it is running on 220 with a bank of capacitors to boost when it kicks on so there will not be a surge on the line and meter

My friend Mike, who is now moving into my old studio in Toronto,, has ripped out the natural gas fired, overhead industrial furnace, and has shut off the gas service to the building.
He is heating the place perfectly, on a 120 volt 20 amp breaker, using considerably less amperage, with a heat pump.
Hold on, it can now get interesting.
Thermal solar panels work, even in January, in Canada, to warm a tank of hot water. This can then help the heat pump be even more efficient, by use of a liquid to liquid  heat exchanger.
Now to get 15, to 20 amps, at 120 volts!
