If the ship is visible 200 miles away then common sense should tell us that
there is no curvature of the earth for 200 miles.

conditions, bouncing off the ionishere. It is a trick of spherical math
when learning to navigate, that we make an assumption of the sun travelling
over the earth, to use the sextant readings.
Don"t fo a second expect this little orb of consiousness is standing still
in relationship to the cosmos, or we, our little globs of busy matter,
aren't, in fact, composed of yet infinately smaller versions of that which
outside the earth, the universe as we have come to know it.
All of reality,  as we are familiar with it, is based on that which we can
sense with our various failing body senses, and the abstract construction
of what that perception leads us to imagine.
We, as tool making primates, have managed to infest this entire orb because
of our ability to make machines that extend our physical abilities, and our
mental ones as well.
Not all of us are equally gifted, in creating the various tools that
humanity has nurtured. The conceptual ones sure get tricky when one foot is
tied to a string and we find ourselves walking in circles in the dark, and
tumble through space.
It it works for you, hang on to that life raft, but bear in mind, the rest
of humanity is occupied with other tasks, being free of that impediment, to
some extent, or another.
Now, if we could only restrain ourselves from making tools that hurt each
other.

I can't figure out why the flat earthers can't understand that it would be
very difficult to circumnavigate  the surface of this planet without a
sextant!

 Oh! They probably have never heard of a sextant, much less ever site
through one...
